Getting here

Switchbacks and hairpin bends and plenty of altitude. Your journey to us is a mini adventure and wonderfully beautiful.

The Runa Nature Hotel has a front-row seat in the South Tyrolean Dolomites and, perhaps, soon in your heart too. Weā€™d bet that youā€™ll fall in love with the landscape and the people as soon as you arrive. Here you can find out everything you need to know about your route up to the Alpe di Rodengo-Luson.

The railway is the perfect solution!

Numerous international long-distance trains from Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland stop at Fortezza/Franzensfeste railway station. After changing to the Val Pusteria railway, you can reach Rio di Pusteria station in just a few minutes. From there, you can catch the Almbus, which operates in summer and winter After a pleasant 20-minute drive, youā€™ll arrive at the Zumis car park terminus. From there, itā€™s a 30-minute walk to our nature hotel. Of course, weā€™re more than happy to pick you up along with your luggage. In winter, we even offer transportation by snowmobile.

Travelling by car in the summer:

The Runa is perched at 1,832 metres above sea level in the Alpe di Rodengo-Luson nature reserve. Thatā€™s why there are strict regulations regarding who can drive and when. But before we go into that, letā€™s talk about the route. First, take the A22 motorway until you reach the Bressanone/Val Pusteria exit. From there, itā€™s just a short 5-minute drive via the Val Pusteria state road E66 to Rio di Pusteria. Once in Rio di Pusteria, turn onto the Rodengo road and continue driving for another 20 minutes until you reach us at the Runa Nature Hotel. Hereā€™s how it then works:

  • Please print out the special driving permit, which will be sent to your home and carry it with you. Landscape conservation regulations are strictly enforced and the fines for non-compliance are substantial.
  • With the special driving permit, you are allowed to use the forest path between the ā€˜Zumis car parkā€™ and the Runa for your arrival from from 15 June to 30 September, until 9:30 am and from 4:30 pm.
  • There are plenty of outdoor car parking spaces available right next to the Runa Nature Hotel. Please display the special permit prominently behind the windscreen and allow your car to take a break too.

Travelling by car in the winter:

Once the first snow has fallen, the Runa is no longer accessible by car. However, we have devised a comfortable and unique transportation method to bring you to the Nature Hotel:

  • Prior to departure, please check the current road conditions. While the motorway and the Val Pusteria road are typically navigable even in peak winter, snow chains may be required on the Rodengo road. Feel free to contact us for guidance.
  • Park your car at the Zumis car park and prominently display the parking ticket we provided you with behind your windscreen.
  • To minimise wait times, we recommend planning your arrival so that our winter alpine taxi can accommodate you.
  • Depending on snow conditions and weather forecasts, our winter alpine taxi operates pick-up times at 9 am, 10 am, and in the afternoon at 3 pm, 4 pm or 5 pm, using a small piste groomer.
  • The initial journey is free of charge. Additional journeys cost 20 euros per person each way.

The alpine bus

The Almbus operates multiple times a day between the village of Rio di Pusteria and the Zumis car park, both in summer and winter. As a guest of the Nature Hotel, you can use this transport service with your guest card free of charge. As often as you like.
